The regulation of gambling is accompanied by a number of complexities. Not only must a regulator be equipped with knowledge of an ever-changing global gambling market, which is becoming increasingly centralized around technology, but regulators must navigate through administrative and executive challenges within a unique, strictly overseen business model.
It is not uncommon for gaming regulators, whether it be board or commission members, executive directors, or administrators, to have minimal exposure to the gaming industry or regulation thereof before being appointed or promoted. As such, the administration and oversight of a complicated industry can provide added challenges and obstacles. There is no doubt that strong, knowledgeable, and informed regulatory leadership is a prerequisite for a strong and healthy industry.
